EM15 is an annual event in Montréal that celebrated its 15th anniversary this year by joining forces with ELEKTRA and MUTEK to create a mind numbing 6 day long series of events. The more then 80 indoor and outdoor performances held throughout the Quartier des spectacles and other sites through out Montréal, ranged from performances, symposium, panels, workshops and the International Marketplace for Digital Arts. Running through out the day and well into the evening this festival presented big names in electronic music from all over the world along side emergent talent.
This one-of-a kind event in association with the National Film Board of Canada presented eight projections through out the city that transformed the outdoor spaces into dynamic video experiences inspired by and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Canadian filmmaker Norman McLaren. Société des Arts Technologiques presented immersive performances in the Satosphère by Quantum, Nimbes, IRM to name a few.
The EM15 event was also joined by BIAN’s second international Digital Arts Biennale held at the Museum of Contemporary Art and across 30 exhibition spaces in the city that featured art installations and presentations on the theme of physicality titled Physical/ite.
To cap this off the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal presents for the first time in Montreal “C4I” a film work by the Japanese sound and video artist Ryoji Ikeda.
Montréal has pulled out the stops to present an awe inspiring series of events. What an exciting opportunity this was to view so many innovative works operating at art’s cutting edge.
